How does the body eliminate waste?
When your cells work, they make waste. The blood picks it up, and the excretory system, a group of organs, takes it out of the body.
From the blood to the toilet
- 1🫘 Kidneys
Two bean-shaped organs in your back. They clean the blood and remove the waste.
- 2💧 Urine
The waste mixes with water and becomes urine.
- 3🎈 Bladder
A stretchy bag where the urine is stored until you go to the toilet.
- 4🚿 Urethra
The tube that takes the urine out of the body.
The skin helps too
Your skin also gets rid of liquid waste: sweat. When you are hot or do sport, you sweat more. Sweat cools your body down as it dries.
You lose water every day when you sweat and when you go to the toilet (and even when you breathe out!). That is why it is important to drink plenty of water, especially when it is hot or after sport.
